İDO Istanbul Sea Buses was established in 1987 by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality to contribute to marine transportation in Istanbul and to help solve the traffic problem in the city.
According to Law No. 4046 on Privatization Practices, privatization of IDO with 100% block sale was completed on June 16, 2011, and the Company was acquired by TASS (Tepe-Akfen-Souter-Sera) consortium. Following the privatization IDO is currently owned by Akfen Holding (30%), Tepe (30%), Souter (30%) and Sera (10%).The joint venture paid US$ 861 million, signed the share purchase contract and acquired the shares of İDO.
İDO provides passenger and vehicle transportation services in Istanbul and the Marmara Sea region in 8 sea bus lines, 2 conventional ferry lines and 4 fast ferry lines, totaling 14 lines. With a modern fleet of 52 sea vessels (24 sea buses, 20 conventional ferries, 7 fast ferries, and 1 Service Ship ), İDO is one of the world’s leading marine passenger and vehicle transportation companies. The İDO fleet has a total capacity of up to 36,000 passengers and up to 3,000 vehicles, which serve on a total of 14 lines. İDO delivers marine transport services in Istanbul and at important hubs in the Marmara Sea and has up to 30 years of operation rights in the 35 piers it operates.
With approximately 34 million passengers and 7 million vehicles transported by IDO in 2019, the company has a large customer base from different social, demographic and economic profiles.
In 2010 IDO was awarded with the 2010 National Quality Grand Prize also at the Project Finance Awards 2011 organized by Euromoney, the İDO privatization transaction received the “European Transport Privatization Deal of the Year” award.
